Two weeks isn't a big deal where most shows are concerned, but considering that the entire series had unfolded over the course of about three weeks by that point, it was a pretty big deal. That became even clearer with "Madness," which made the unusual move of pushing the narrative ahead 14 days.
Suddenly the plot was moving at a brisk pace. But with that battle ending with the Master losing his head and only narrowly escaping complete destruction, it suddenly became clear that the writers weren't content to take baby steps any longer. The third episode, "First Born," offered a clearer sense of what was to come for the season, culminating with the long-awaited showdown between Quinlan and the Master, who at that point was still lurking inside the body of rock star-turned-servant Bolivar (Jack Kesy). But at least those early episodes laid the groundwork for more compelling storylines and stronger character arcs to come. "Bad White" proved once again that it never pays to explore Dutch's personal life or hacker friendships very deeply. Not only was the pacing slow, they tended to devote too much attention to the show's weakest characters, Zach and Dutch (Ruda Gedmintas). Ruda Gedmintas as Dutch Velders and Corey Stoll as Ephraim Goodweather.The first two episodes were easily the weakest installments of the season. And while all that unfolded, the Master (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes) plotted his takeover of New York while minions Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) and Eichorst (Richard Sammel) continued their bitter rivalry. Meanwhile, Setrakian (David Bradley) and Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) worked to decipher their new prize, the Occido Lumen, while Fet (Kevin Durand) relished his new role as a mentor to the city's anti-strigoi forces. We saw Eph (Corey Stoll) sinking deeper into alcohol-fueled misery as he mourned the death of Nora (Mia Maestro) and the kidnapping of his son, Zach (Max Charles). The premiere, "New York Strong," was content mainly to touch base with the various major players in the aftermath of the Season 2 finale. That being said, it did take a few episodes for the season to really find its groove. At this point, Cuse must have a great appreciation for the value of knowing when and where the finish line is. It's interesting to note that executive producer/showrunner Carlton Cuse also served on Lost, and that was another long-winded series that became markedly better once a specific endpoint was established. Two, the fact that the show is now confirmed to be ending with Season 4 gave the writers a specific endpoint to build towards. One, the shorter 10-episode format left less room for filler. You can point to two main factors that made Season 3 a better experience overall. With less filler and more emphasis on raising the stakes in humanity's fight for survival, Season 3 proved what this show is capable of when executed properly. Season 3 stood out because, for once, the show opted for a leaner, meaner approach. The conflict has unfolded over the course of a few weeks, and too often The Strain seems prone to getting trapped on pointless tangents rather than furthering the conflict between its human heroes and the bloodthirsty strigoi.
Most of all, though, “Breaking Bad” shows that even when fine writers, directors, and actors can find humor and pathos in displaced white-collar workers’ undignified struggle for dignity, it still looks awfully damned dreary and ugly.Even with three novels to draw from as source material, it often seems as though FX's adaptation of The Strain would have been better-suited to a limited series format.

Of course, “Breaking Bad” TV series make some pretense toward allegory of the American middle class struggling through the throes of deep recession, and it scores some hard hits. Although the writers have woven-in some amazingly ironic lines, known in the trade as “comic relief,” the characters deliberately deliver their quips in such a super-slow, slack-jawed drawl they seem more tragic than funny. Walt, expertly portrayed by Bryan Cranston of “Malcolm in the Middle” fame, is neck-deep in problems, complications, and flat-out ugliness from the minute he lights the Bunsen burner. In this corner of the universe, crime never-ever pays. Of course, as Glenn Frye crooned, “The lure of easy money has a very strong appeal,” but “Breaking Bad” does not allow for even a split-second of sunshine through the abysmal darkness. A seven-part AMC series, “Breaking Bad” TV show tells the story of Walt White, high school chemistry teacher turned methamphetamine cooker and dealer. One critic characterized “Breaking Bad’s” dark humor as “Thelma and Louise as seen by Dostoyevsky” - and that was one of the perkier, more optimistic descriptions.
